EYE ON CLALLAM: County to revisit B&B ordinance

Clallam County commissioners will discuss revisions to a proposal to regulate vacation rental and bed-and-breakfast inns Monday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Commissioners held a public hearing on a draft ordinance establishing development standards for vacation rentals and B&Bs last Tuesday. They remanded the ordinance back to the county planning commission.

Other discussions for the work session include:

• Proposed resolutions altering voting precinct boundary lines for size limits and annexations.

• A discussion of next steps to take on the Lange settlement.

• A grant application and agreement with the state Department of Transportation for three permanent bicycle and pedestrian counters.

• An agreement with Anchor QEA LLC for engineering and design to improve fish passage at the McDonald Creek outtake of the Agnew Irrigation District.

• A draft letter to address concerns raised by the Dungeness River Management Team.

Commissioners will hold their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

• A resolution authorizing a grant from the Opportunity Fund to the Peninsula Housing Authority for the Mount Angeles View Phase 1 redevelopment project.

• An agreement with Western Federal Lands to document the transfer of county funds to Western Federal Lands for construction of a segment of the Spruce Railroad Trail at Lake Crescent.

• Agreements with Forks Abuse for emergency housing services, housing advocacy and direct case management services.

• Next steps to take on the Lange settlement to conclude settlement obligations.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will hold a work session on proposed vacation rentals and bed-and-breakfast development standards Wednesday.

The work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will consider placing a 0.2 percent sales tax increase to fund a Transportation Benefit District on the Aug. 1 ballot when it meets Tuesday.

Council members will consider the proposed ordinance at a special meeting at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

The meeting will precede a 5:30 p.m. executive session to discuss potential litigation with legal counsel. The regular city council meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

The council created a Transportation Benefit District on April 4. The independent taxing district is solely for maintenance, repair and construction of transportation improvements. The sales tax increase would fund the district.

At the regular meeting, the council will consider contracts concerning harbor cleanup and purchase of equipment.

It will conduct a first reading on a budget amendment.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will consider an interlocal agreement with Kitsap Transit for the Strait Shot service to Bainbridge Island on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Clallam Transit System administration building at 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Other agenda items include:

• Authorization for travel and training to the state public transportation conference, expo and roadeo.

• Approval of an updated 2017 non-represented personnel salary and wages schedule.

• An executive session to discuss attorney-client privilege and personnel issues.

Olympic Medical ­Center

Olympic Medical Center commissioners will discuss a real estate purchase when they meet Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Linkletter Hall in the basement of the hospital at 939 E. Caroline St., Port Angeles.

Commissioners also will discuss change orders for the medical office building and a surgical services consultant agreement.

They also will consider respiratory therapy equipment and a hospitalist personal services agreement.

They will hear reports on operations and advocacy and on the Este Park conference.

Clallam PUD

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will consider a resolution in support of the operation of the Columbia Generating Station on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Crescent boardroom at the Carlsborg main office, located at 104 Hooker Road.

The Columbia Generating Station is a nuclear energy facility near Richland that is owned and operated by Energy Northwest. It is a carbon-free source of affordable electricity, PUD officials said

Other agenda items for the PUD meeting include:

• An agreement for a temporary journey-level meterman labor force.

• The issuance of a purchase order for a used TRAC aerial manlift unit.

• An invitation to bid for site improvements and building construction for a Forks vehicle storage building.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will hear a stakeholder report from the Sequim Education Foundation when it meets Monday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

It also will hear reports on language arts and the March budget, and consider travel requests.

Marine resources ­committee

The Clallam County Marine Resources Committee will hear an update on educational outreach events Monday.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm. in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

The committee also will hear a briefing on an upcoming pigeon guillemot presentation and welcome crabber outreach intern Shannon Weaver.

Board of Health

The Clallam County Board of Health on Tuesday will continue a discussion on its future roles on the community health assessment and community health improvement plan.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Other agenda items include a health officer’s report on Olympic Communities of Health quantitative data and an environmental health director’s report on an environmental health work plan.

Park District No. 1

The Clallam County Park and Recreation District No. 1 board will hear updates on the Sequim and Olympic Peninsula YMCAs on Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the Sequim YMCA, 610 N. Fifth Ave.
