EYE ON CLALLAM: County to mull hearing examiner position Tuesday

Clallam County commissioners will discuss the selection of a hearing examiner Tuesday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Commissioners interviewed four candidates who applied to be the primary hearing examiner last Monday.

Hearing examiners adjudicate land-use matters as quasi-judicial officers.

Other discussion items for the work session include:

■ A funding request from Peninsula Area Public Access (PAPA) for a cable TV public access channel in Clallam County.

■ A proposed agreement with the Western Federal Lands Highway Division for Spruce Railroad Trail construction.

■ A proposed agreement with the Port of Port Angeles to purchase property for Lower Elwha Road reconstruction.

The work session also will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

■ A letter to the Navy regarding a proposed pier on Ediz Hook.

■ A contract addendum and purchase order from the Assessor’s Office for mobile field units.

■ An agreement with the Western Federal Lands Highway Division for improvements to East Beach Road.

■ A contract amendment with the state Department of Social and Health Services to add funding for developmental disabilities.

■ A bid opening for a grounding project for the Clallam County Courthouse.

■ A resolution acknowledging receipt of an addendum to a five-year prevention plan.

■ A resolution re-establishing membership categories of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

■ Notice of a June 14 hearing for a proposed Opportunity Fund grant to the William Shore Memorial Pool District.

■ Adoption of a supplemental appropriation.

A public hearing will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for consideration of debatable budget emergencies.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will review applications for executive director Tuesday.

An executive session will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the port administrative offices, 338 W. First St.

The commission will meet in open session no earlier than 9:45 a.m.

A public comment period is on the agenda.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will discuss preliminary draft regulations for vacation rentals and bed-and-breakfast inns Wednesday.

The work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

Other agenda items include a request to rezone 7.7 acres at 4525 S. Fey Road from urban reserve industrial to industrial.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will conduct an entrance conference with the assistant state auditor Tuesday.

The special meeting will be at 2 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Olympic Medical ­Center

Olympic Medical Center commissioners will hear an update on the North Olympic Healthcare Network when they meet Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet at 12:30 p.m. in Linkletter Hall in the basement of the hospital at 939 E. Caroline St., Port Angeles.

They also will consider a soldier wall project and signage on the Port Angeles campus.

North Olympic Lead Entity for Salmon

The citizens and policy team of the North Olympic Lead Entity for Salmon will decide to forward projects for funding when it meets Wednesday.

The team will meet at 9 a.m. at the Clallam Transit Center administration building, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd. in Port Angeles.

The group will review proposed local habitat protection and restoration projects, project scoring, review panel comments and recommendations of its technical team and others prior to deciding which projects to forward to the Puget Sound Partnership and Salmon Recovery Funding Board for 2017 grant funding.

Clallam PUD

The Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners’ Monday meeting has been canceled for Memorial Day.

The next meeting will be June 6.
