Clallam County commissioners will hold a pair of public hearings for consideration of the 2018 budget and emergency appropriations Tuesday.
The hearings will begin at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Commissioners may vote on the budget after the second hearing.
On Monday, commissioners will hear an update on the Shoreline Master Program with specific information about aquaculture and net pens.
The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the same boardroom.
Other items on the work session agenda include:
• A discussion with Port Angeles Deputy Mayor Kidd on mental health and suicide from the Eighth Street bridges.
• A discussion with the County Treasurer regarding public records.
• An update on the Salish Behavioral Health Organization and state plan for full financial integration.
• A memorandum of understanding with the State Patrol for the OPSCAN communications network.
• A consolidated contract amendment with the state Department of Health for a $20,992 decrease.
• A draft report on the 2017 integrated weed management program.
• A draft marine spatial plan.
• A discussion to finalize a list of topics for the county legislative meeting agenda on Dec. 11.
The work session also will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Port Angeles city
The Port Angeles City Council will hold a public hearing on the addition of Eighth Street bridge barriers to the Capital Facilities and Transportation Improvement plans for 2018-2023 at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The meeting will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
The council also will conduct a public hearing and second reading for the 2018 budget.
Public hearings will begin shortly after 6:30 p.m.
Seven people have jumped to their deaths from one of the bridges since they reopened with 4-foot, 6-inch railings in 2009. The council will discuss options for protective screenings on the twin spans Tuesday.
Other agenda items for the meeting include:
• A donation policy for acceptance of public contributions for Eighth Street bridges protective screenings.
• A proposed utility rate adjustments for 2018.
• A 2017 budget amendment.
• The results of an advisory vote on community water fluoridation.
• The results of a ballot measure to change the form of city government.
Port of Port Angeles
Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider buying a one-third-acre parcel that includes two houses across from the planned Marine Trades Industrial Park on Marine Drive and turning it into a parking lot when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.
The special meeting will be at the port administrative building, 338 W. First St.
Commissioners also will discuss Community Partner Program awards.
The port would buy the 413 W. Second St. property, owned by Joshua Armstrong and valued at $175,755, for $165,000 for a 34-space parking lot for the planned Marine Trades Industrial Park. Development costs, including demolition of the residences, would total an additional $150,000 for a total project cost of $315,000.
Commissioners also will consider sending Aviation Development Manager Dan Gase and port Commissioner Steve Burke to the Farnborough International Airshow-Aerospace Conference in Farnborough, England, from July 15-21 for $13,650.
Burke and Gase would attend the airshow-conference as part of the state Department of Commerce delegation.
Commissioners also will consider changing meeting dates from the first and third Tuesday of the month to the second and fourth Tuesday beginning in January.
Public Utility District
Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will review the 2018 budget and any rate adjustments in a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
The meeting will be in the Lake Crescent Boardroom at the Carlsborg main office at 104 Hooker Road.
Other agenda items include a memo of completion for a pole test and treat contract with Mi-Tech pole inspection services and removal of delinquent accounts.
Sequim schools
Two new members of the Sequim School Board will be sworn in soon after the meeting begins at 6 p.m. Monday.
The School Board will meet at the district office, 503 N. Sequim Ave. It may meet in executive session at 5 p.m.
Brian Kuh will be sworn into Position 2 and Brandino Gibson into Position 4.
A new website and domain name will be rolled out.
The board will hear a report on high school sports.
Planning commission
The Clallam County Planning Commission meetings scheduled for Wednesday and Dec. 20 have been canceled.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.
