EYE ON CLALLAM: County panel to discuss climate change action

Clallam County commissioners will discuss a resolution authorizing action on climate change in Clallam County on Monday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other scheduled discussion items for the work session include:

• A Shoreline Master Program update.

• A proposed resolution canceling uncollectible personal property taxes.

• A report on property tax refunds made in 2017.

• Agreements with Harper Ridgeview Funeral Chapel and Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel for services and fees for work performed on circumstances of death where the coroner has invoked jurisdiction.

• A Superior Court request to increase a temporary part-time Drug Court assistant position to a regular full-time administrative assistant therapeutic court position.

• A letter to Bureau of Ocean Energy Management regarding a draft proposal for a national oil and gas leasing program.

• A monthly comparison of the county’s financial performance with the 2018 budget.

A quarterly income report from the state Department of Natural Resources will be held at 1 p.m. Monday.

Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

• An agreement with Keller Rohrback to file a lawsuit on behalf of Clallam County against manufacturers and wholesalers of prescription opioid painkillers.

• A supplemental agreement with the state Department of Transportation for repairs to Ward Bridge.

• An easement purchase agreement with Gathering Ground Property, LLC for the scour repair on the Ward Bridge support piers.

• A purchase order with Motorola Solutions for upgraded patrol vehicle radios.

• A grant amendment with the state Military Department to allow the Sequim Police Department to spend its portion of funding on mobile data computers and components.

• A renewed agreement with the state Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs for continued operation of Clallam County’s 24/7 Sobriety program.

• A contract amendment with the state Recreation and Conservation Office for a North Olympic Peninsula Lead Entity project.

• A renewed agreement with the state Department of Health for information sharing.

• Funding for First Step Family Support Center, Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics, Serenity House of Clallam County, Peninsula Behavioral Health, Olympic Personal Growth Center and Lutheran Community Services Northwest in amounts recommended by the Chemical Dependency/Mental Health Committee.

• A bid opening for a hot mix and liquid asphalt supply contract.

• A call for bids for crushed rock supply.

• A request for qualifications and proposals for chemical dependency and mental health services.

• A call for hearing for amendments to public records policy.

• A resolution canceling uncollectable personal property taxes.

• Notice that a supplemental appropriation and budget reductions will be adopted Feb. 27.

• A call for Feb. 27 hearing for the consideration of debatable budget emergencies.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider a three-year lease for an expansion of Barhop Brewing when it meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Commissioners will meet at the Port of Port Angeles building, 338 W. First St.

Barhop, which does business on Railroad Avenue, wants to expand production capacity into the building at 2506 W. 19th St., a place formally housing Dairy Fresh.

Barhop plans to employ two full-time workers this year, 3.5 full-time equivalents in 2019 and four full-time employees in 2020.

The lease would be for $1,140 per month. Both Barhop and the port would make improvements on the site.

Commissioners will consider a contract with Carletti architects for $45.000 for the multi-tenant industrial building.

They will review the proposed 2018 Recreation and Public Access Plan. Adoption will be considered Feb. 27.

Peninsula College

The Peninsula College Board of Trustees will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in the Cornaby Center, room A12, on the Peninsula College campus in Port Angeles.

Sequim City Council

The Sequim City Council will consider an agreement with the Sequim Botanical Garden Society for a rose garden in Carrie Blake Park when it meets at 5 p.m. Monday.

The council will meet at Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

During a work session it will have a photo session with council liaisons and discuss the arts advisory commission.

The regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Council members will conduct a public hearing on a change proposed for the Fairweather Phase A plat. They will review plans for a sidewalk project on Blake Avenue and hear a year-end report form the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Forks City Council

The Forks City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Robbins annexation when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be at City Hall, 500 E. Division St.

The council also will set dates for hearings on vacation rentals and the proposed McGinley annexation.

Quillayute Valley

Quillayute Valley School Board will consider renewal of the superintendent’s contract when it meets at 5:30 p.m . Tuesday.

The meeting will be in the library at Forks High School, 261 Spartan Ave. The board also will discuss enrollment data and set dates and topics for work sessions.

Clallam Conservation

Clallam Conservation District members will consider approving a long range planning update at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in Suite H at Armory Square, 228 W. First St., Port Angeles. Other agenda items include a U.S. Forest Service grant for a Sitkum Road project, a conservation reserve enhancement program grant amendment and cooperator and cost-share agreements.

Port Angeles parks

The Port Angeles Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission will hear an update from Port Angeles Lefties Baseball owner Matt Acker at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth.

Other agenda items include revenue and expenditure reports and an application for renaming the stage at City Pier.
