EYE ON CLALLAM: County eyes funds for Sequim facility

Clallam County commissioners will conduct a public hearing on a proposal to amend the 10-year capital facilities plan Tuesday.

The hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The amendment is to move money from undesignated projects to the facility formerly known as the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center, which is expected to reopen in September as the Sequim YMCA.

Commissioners have approved a $731,705 grant to commissioners of Clallam County Parks and Recreation District 1, who oversee the facility at 610 N. Fifth Ave., to pay for a new air handler needed to reopen Sequim’s public pool under the management of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA.

If approved, the undesignated projects fund would have a remaining balance of $268,295.

Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

■ A contract amendment with the state Department of Social and Health Services to add funding for contractors to provide substance abuse and mental health treatment.

■ A contract extension for monthly maintenance and purchase order for hardware and software components to perform phone and voice mail system upgrades.

■ A resolution appointing a representative and alternate for disaster assistance funding and administration.

■ Notice that supplemental appropriations will be adopted by resolution May 31.

■ A resolution calling for an April 26 hearing for consideration of debatable budget emergencies.

■ A public hearing on the proposed sale of a sheriff’s office pistol as surplus property.

Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday for their weekly work session.

Discussion items include a request for proposals for intervention services in public schools for the 2016-17 school year and a proposed agreement with the state for aquatic lands easement for the Carlsborg sewer project.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will consider changes to the ethics ordinance as well as appointment of an ethics committee to review a complaint.

The regular session will begin at 6 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

It will be preceded by an executive session at 4:30 p.m. and a 5 p.m. joint session with the city Utility Advisory Committee to hear a capital facilities plan presentation.

It also will discuss a joint meeting with Port of Port Angeles commissioners.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will conduct its monthly meeting in Forks on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Peninsula College Forks Extension, 481 S. Forks Ave.

Action items include authorization for training and travel to the annual state Department of Transportation conference and vendor expo in Wenatchee and the annual declaration of uncollectibles.

Board of Health

The Clallam County Board of Health will hear reports on hepatitis C and Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics’ plans to treat chronic hepatitis C when it meets Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

Other agenda items include an update on a May 2 Board of County Commissioners work session on funding for on-site septic system management programs.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will hear about Washington School Public Relations Association 2016 publication and electronic media awards when it meets Monday.

The regular session will begin at 6:30 p.m. at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

It will be preceded by a 5:30 p.m. workshop on learning support services and technology.

The board will consider a resignation letter from Russell Lodge, Helen Haller Elementary principal, effective July 1.

It also will consider policies on emergency drills, non-resident students and promotions and retention.

It will hear reports on the transitional bilingual program, the Title 1 Part A learning assistance program and the special education program.

Olympic Medical Center

Olympic Medical Center commissioners will hear updates on medical office building construction and consider appointing an auditor and a treasurer for hospital district when they meet Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in Linkletter Hall in the basement of Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.

They will consider a physician employment agreement and hear a report on operations and advocacy.

Carlsborg advisory council

The Carlsborg Community Advisory Council will discuss a request from the county Planning Commission to reconsider recommended zoning north of Spath Road from Carlsborg commercial to Carlsborg residential low-density when it meets Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Greywolf Elementary School library, 171 Carlsborg Road.

In addition, county staff has requested a discussion on setbacks in residential and Carlsborg commercial zones, development standards and Clallam County Public Utility District water.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will discuss preliminary draft regulations for vacation rentals and bed-and-breakfast inns Wednesday.

The work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

Trust lands committee

The Clallam County Trust Lands Advisory Committee will review the Endangered Species Act with a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service representative Friday.

The meeting will begin at noon in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

Other agenda items include the development of questions for Grays Harbor County, which manages some of its own state forest trust lands, and a data request to the state Department of Natural Resources.

Port Angeles schools

The Port Angeles School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.

An agenda was not available by Saturday.

Clallam PUD

The Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners’ meeting for Monday has been canceled due to a lack of a quorum.

The next meeting will be May 23.
