EYE ON CLALLAM: County considers Black Ball Transport rescue plan act funding

Meetings across Clallam County.

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider an agreement with Black Ball Transport, Inc. for an additional $1.25 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding during their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Commissioners will discuss that issue and others at a weekly work session at 9 a.m. Monday.

The work session also will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

• Budget reductions.

• A resolution to continue the Clallam Bay/Sekiu Community Advisory Council through Dec. 31, 2026.

• Resolutions to appoint or reappoint 14 community members to seven volunteer boards and commissions.

• American Rescue Plan Act and food banks.

• A discussion on the COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

• A discussion on the state forestlands sustainable harvest unit Clallam County.

• A request for $10,000 in annual dues for public land, environment and natural resources lobbying by Robert K. Weidner.

• A contract for $50,000 to the Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau for additional funding for the 2021 fall/winter marketing campaign.

• A review of the “How Did We Do” report which compares the month’s spending against the 2021 budget projections.

Redistrict Commission

The Clallam County Districting Commission is expected to select a preferred redistricting alternative at 1 p.m. Monday.

The commission will review the three options presented at public hearings last week, review the public comments from the the hearings and discuss the three options using the county’s charter criteria.

According to section 7.40 of the county charter, those criteria are, in order of descending priority:

— Districts shall be approximately equal in population so that the population of the largest does not exceed that of the smallest by more than 5 percent.

— Districts shall have boundaries that run generally north-south.

— Districts shall be geographically compact and continuous.

— Districts shall be composed of whole voting precincts to the maximum extent possible.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will continue its periodic review of the shoreline master program at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.
