EYE ON CLALLAM: County commissioners to hear Peninsula Housing Authority report

Clallam County commissioners will hear an update about Peninsula Housing Authority when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The work session will be in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Kay Kassinger, Peninsula Housing Authority executive director, will provide information on the past year’s highlights and challenges and look ahead to the upcoming year, according to an agenda item summary.

Other discussion items for the work session include:

• An update on the county’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

• An agreement with Berk Consulting, Inc. for a criminal justice and legal services level of service and efficiency study.

• A grant application to fund the salary and benefits of the victim witness coordinator.

• A grant application to fund knotweed control.

• A notice of bids for a segment of the Olympic Discovery Trail between Freshwater Bay Road and Thompson Road.

• An agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation for funding construction of a Spruce Railroad Trail segment at Lake Crescent.

• A discussion of historical preservation funds.

The board will discuss employee recognition and appreciation in a commissioner conversation meeting at 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Commissioners will conduct their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items for Tuesday’s meeting include:

• Four right-of-way purchases for Dry Creek Road reconstruction.

• A notice of bids for an annual supply of hot mix and liquid asphalt.

• A bid opening for a countywide paving and road repair project.

• A resolution changing Marine Resource Committee Membership categories.

• A resolution appointing Mike French to the Homelessness Task Force.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will hear a presentation on traffic safety when it gathers at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth. St.

Other agenda items for the meeting include:

• A second reading and consideration of a budget amendment.

• An update on the city’s capital facilities process.

• The proposed agenda for a joint meeting with Clallam County commissioners scheduled for May 20.

• A proclamation recognizing the Esprit conference.

The council will conduct an executive session at 5 p.m. Tuesday to discuss collective bargaining with an employee organization.

On Wednesday, the council will hold a special meeting with the Utility Advisory Committee to review an electric cost of service analysis.

The special meeting will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will hear a report on the increase in the high school graduation rate when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The board will meet at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

The superintendent will update the board on the strategic plan and school facilities.

The board will consider a variety of policies dealing with excused and unexcused absences, child custody, nonresident students, release of information concerning sexual and kidnapping offenders, electronic resources and internet safety, online learning, nutrition and physical fitness.

Fire District 3

Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will consider the EMS levy renewal calendar when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Commissioners meet at 323 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.

They also will consider the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau rating, overtime, response during adverse weather, an agreement with Distinct 1 on vehicle maintenance, and employee agreements.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.
