EYE ON CLALLAM: County commissioners to talk about climate change

Clallam County commissioners will discuss climate change at a 7:30 a.m. Monday.

The rest of the work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other discussion items include a contract amendment with Friendship Diversion Services and Lodging Tax Advisory Committee planning for 2019.

Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

• Selection of a chair and vice chair for 2019.

• Recognition of Sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Pieper for more than 38 years of service to the county.

• A contract amendment with the state Department of Health for well site inspections of Group B water sources.

• An interlocal agreement with Kitsap Public Health District and Jefferson County for a regional public health after-hours answering service.

• A contract amendment with Pacific Coast Salmon Coalition for oversight of a county road culvert replacement project at Kugel Creek on Cooper Ranch Road.

• A request for proposals, qualifications and letters of interest for 2019 architecture/engineering consulting services.

• A proposal opening for the Ward Bridge scour repair.

• A resolution designating commissioner involvement on advisory boards.

• Resolutions reappointing Bruce Fernie to the Chemical Dependency/Mental Health Program Fund Advisory Board; Dick Gritman, Gary Gleason, Justin Zarzeczny, Chuck Preble, Dave Burt, Jennifer Reandeau, Kathy Sample, Andrew Stevenson and Bob Lake to the Trails Advisory Committee; Debbi Tesch to the Homelessness Task Force; Gene Unger to the Permit Advisory Board; Jennifer Pelikan to the North Olympic Library System Board of Trustees; Gary Gleason and Jan Hielman to the Planning Commission; Sharon DelaBarre, Michael McAleer and Alan Barnard to the Opportunity Fund Board; Barbara Sanford and Thomas Cox to the Sheriff’s Citizens Advisory Committee.

• A resolution appointing Bill Hughes to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board.

• A public hearing on an ordinance that would rename the Chemical Dependency/Mental Health Advisory Board the Behavioral Health Advisory Board.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider purchasing equipment for a wash down facility when it meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in the port administration building, 338 W. First St., Port Angeles.

If commissioners approve, a $170,000 purchase agreement will be signed with Clear Water Services of Everett for the facility at the Marine Trades Industrial Park. Commissioners also will consider advertising for bids for repairs of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 in Port Angeles. Bid opening is to be Feb. 20 with construction expected to start in July.

Commissioners also will elect officers and discuss a letter supporting the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s proposal for oyster farming in Sequim Bay.

Conservation District

The Clallam Conservation District board will consider approval of a 2019 work plan and budget Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in Suite H at Armory Square, 228 W. First St., Port Angeles.

Other agenda items include a discussion on long-term stable funding and a request for proposals for a Dungeness well metering pilot project.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will consider the salary schedule for unrepresented workers when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be at Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Board members also will discuss the Carlsborg sewer and consider policies on student records, board duties and a school board member legislative program.

Port Angeles schools

The Port Angeles School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be in the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.

No agenda was available by Saturday.

Public Utility District

There will be no meeting of the Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners Monday.

The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14.
