EYE ON CLALLAM: County board to hold three hearings this Tuesday

And other meetings across the county.

Clallam County commissioners will hold public hearings on proposals to amend county road speed limit policy, veterans assistance policy and to create a new code chapter for roadside weed management.

The hearings will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the commissioners’ meeting room, Room 160, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St. Port Angeles.

They will be preceded by the commissioners’ regular business meeting at 10 a.m.

Action items include:

• An agreement with Olympic Peninsula Construction Inc. for a courthouse door and hardware replacement project.

• A contract amendment with the Department of Health increasing funding and adding statements of work for various programs.

• An agreement with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department for online food worker training, testing and card issuance.

• Contract amendments with the state Department of Corrections changing duration dates and compensation amounts.

• Agreements with Motorola Solutions Inc. for the purchase of 15 Motorola mobile radio packages for the Sheriff’s Office.

• An agreement with the state Department of Commerce to provide funding for the investigation, disruption and prosecution of drug and gang organizations.

• Four easement purchases for the Olympic Discovery Trail between Freshwater Bay and Camp Hayden roads.

• A supplemental agreement with BergerAbam Inc. for the Ward Bridge scour repair project.

• Notice of a Nov. 8 hearing on a proposed critical areas ordinance amendment.

Commissioners will hold their weekly work session at 9 a.m. Monday.

Discussion items include a request to fill two maintenance worker positions previously vacated by retired road crew members.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider a contract with Rognlin’s Inc. in connection with the Composite Recycling Technology Center when they meet Monday.

The regular meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at port headquarters at 338 W. First St. It will be preceded by a 9 a.m. work session.

At the morning work session, commissioners will get a presentaiton on public makerspaces from Steve Bearman and review the draft 2017 operating budget.

During the regular session, commissioners also will consider:

• A fee waiver request from North Olympic Sail & Power Squadron

• A Masco Maritime lease

Port Angeles city

Port Angeles City Council members will discuss policies on curb markings by public works employees that designate curbside parking downtown when council members hold their regular meeting Tuesday.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

The meeting will be preceded by an executive session at 5:30 p.m. at the same location to discuss potential litigation.

The discussion at the regular meeting on downtown parking is precipitated by the disputed elimination of some parking at the corner of South Second Street and Lincoln Avenue.

Council members also will discuss council rules of procedure and hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on 2017 revenue sources that will be continued to Nov. 1.

Fire District No. 2

Clallam County Fire District No. 2 commissioners will hold a work session on the draft 2017 budget on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at 1212 E. First St., Port Angeles.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will consider an update to the 2016 salary and wages schedule Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Clallam Transit System main office, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Other agenda items include memorandums of commendation and a review of monthly financial statements.

Clallam PUD

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will hear a staff update on strategic plan objectives for the third quarter of this year Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Crescent boardroom of the district’s main office, 104 Hooker Road in Carlsborg.

Other agenda items include:

• A resolution establishing the district’s electric, water and wastewater systems rate schedules to account for a change in the calculation method under a new software platform.

• A change to the customer service hours of business to factor in new requirements for a software system conversion.

• Contract completion for a transmission line removal.

Board of Health

The Clallam County Board of Health will discuss a resolution in support of raising the legal sale of tobacco and vaping products from age 18 to 21 on Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

Other agenda items include plans for a 2017 community health assessment, environmental health director recruitment and next year’s Health and Human Services budget.

Public defense

The Clallam County Ad Hoc Committee for Public Defense Services will review proposed recommendations Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in the commissioners’ small conference room (150) at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Peninsula College

The regular meeting of the Peninsula College Board of Trustees will be held Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in the Cornaby Center on the Port Angeles campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on draft updates to the Carlsborg Urban Growth Area on Wednesday.

The hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

The proposed amendments were recommended by the Carlsborg Community Advisory Council.

Sequim Planning Commission

The Sequim Planning Commission will consider an ordinance Amending Title 18 for Wireless Communications Facilities at its Tuesday meeting.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of the increasing need to address the homeless population.

Sequim Arts Advisory Commission

The Sequim Arts Advisory Commission will meet Monday to discuss event updates for the winter holidays. It also plans to discuss potential artistic projects.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in council chambers, 152 W. Cedar St.

Sequim School Board

The Sequim School Board will hold its regularly scheduled meeting in the board meeting room at 503 N. Sequim Ave. at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

The board is expected to vote under new business on a resolution for a four-year programs and operations levy. The board will vote on whether to put the levy on a Feb. 14, 2017, ballot.

On the board’s consent agenda are personnel items, including accepting a letter of resignation from the district’s human resources director, Karen Sande, and an interlocal agreement with the Clallam Conservation District for a rainwater collection and storage system at the high school.

The board is also expected to accept a donation of $240,000 from the James and Agnes Williams Charitable Remainder Trust.

Forks Planning Commission

The Forks Planning Commission will meet at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 500 E. Division St.
