EYE ON CLALLAM: County board plans review of budget performance Monday in Port Angeles

Clallam County commissioners will hear a four-month performance review of the 2016 budget Monday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

County Administrator Jim Jones concluded that the budget is on track to have a “little less” than the budgeted deficit of $2.94 million at year’s end, according to an executive summary to the discussion.

Other discussion items for the work session include:

■ A review of commissioner participation in the Cascadia Rising earthquake preparedness drill, which is scheduled for June 7-10.

■ A proposed ordinance to increase Clallam Bay/Sekiu sewer fees.

■ Proposed modifications to county policy for road speed limits.

■ An Opportunity Fund grant request for an expansion plan design for William Shore Memorial Pool.

Commissioners will conduct an executive session at 11 a.m. Monday to discuss pending litigation.

At 1 p.m. Monday, commissioners will begin a series of interviews with five candidates for county hearing examiner.

Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include authorization of an aquatic lands easement from the state Department of Natural Resources for the Carlsborg sewer project and a bid opening for the Clallam County Courthouse grounding project.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will conduct a joint meeting with the Economic Development Corp. when they meet Monday morning and conduct a public hearing on plans for harbor improvements that afternoon.

The joint meeting with the EDC will be at 10:30 a.m. after the morning workshop begins at 9 a.m. at 338 W. First St.

The public hearing will be at the afternoon meeting, which will begin at 2 p.m. after an executive session on current litigation, which will start at 11:30 a.m., ends.

The public hearing will be on amending the comprehensive scheme of harbor improvements.

Clallam PUD

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will receive public comment on the proposed community solar project Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Crescent boardroom at the Carlsborg main office, located at 104 Hooker Road.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will conduct a work session on the council rules of procedure and the preliminary results of the Washington Survey and Rating Bureau’s Fire Protection Evaluation on Tuesday.

The special meeting will be at 5 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Port Angeles Planning Commission

The Port Angeles Planning Commission will conduct public hearings on the proposed 2016 comprehensive plan update and proposed amendments to the city’s wetlands protection law when it meets Wednesday.

The commission will meet at 6 p.m. at 321 E. Fifth St.

Sequim City Council

The Sequim City Council will conduct a public hearing and consider approval of proposed changes in fines set out by the city nuisance code when it meets Monday.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The council also will consider setting a June 13 public hearing on proposed amendments to the building code.

Forks City Council

The Forks City Council hear a report on the Clallam County Trust Land Advisory Committee when it meets Monday.

The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at 500 E. Division St.

It also will hear a report on well water level.

Quillayute schools

The Quillayute School Board will hear a report on Spartan Field replacement when it meets Tuesday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at the library at Forks High School, 261 S. Spartan Ave.

Cape Flattery schools

The Cape Flattery School Board will consider a state audit and review superintendent’s goals and objections when it meets Wednesday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at the library at Neah Bay Elementary School, 3560 Deer St.

Library system board

The North Olympic Library System board will hear the annual report of West End manager Theresa Tetreau when it meets in Forks on Thursday.

The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Forks Library.

The board oversees public libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay.

Clallam Conservation District

The Clallam Conservation District and Clallam County Department of Community Development will host joint workshops on agriculture in critical areas Tuesday and Thursday.

The first workshop will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, Sequim.

The second workshop will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Pacific Room of the state Department of Natural Resources building in Forks, 411 Tillicum Lane.

Clallam County is updating its critical areas code to address regulations that apply to existing and ongoing agriculture in streams, wetlands and their associated buffers.

A formal hearing on the update has been scheduled by the Clallam County Planning Commission for June 15. The update will be subject to final approval by the Board of County Commissioners.

The Crescent School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the library at the school at 50350 state Highway 112 in Joyce.
