EYE ON CLALLAM: Contract extension for indigent defense services to be considered at Tuesday commissioners meeting

Clallam County commissioners will consider a one-year contract extension with Clallam Public Defender to provide indigent defense services Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other agenda items include:

■ A contract amendment with the Peninsula Housing Authority adding an administration budget line.

■ An agreement with the State Patrol for the National Criminal History Improvement program.

■ The purchase of easement from the Sequim Valley Center Lot Owners Association for the Carlsborg Sewer project.

A work session will be held at 9 a.m. Monday to preview items set for action Tuesday.

The board also will discuss a recommendation for contracted chemical dependency, mental health and co-occurring services.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will hold a public hearing on a draft 2016 budget Monday.

The hearing will begin at 1 p.m. at the Clallam Transit System headquarters at 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.

Board action on the draft budget is expected after the hearing.

Agenda items for the board meeting include:

■ Recognition of Jim McEntire and Mike Breidenbach for their service as board members.

■ Memorandums of commendation for customer service for Jacque Quent, Martin Borleau, Jim Goff, Penny Bially and David Fudally.

■ Adoption of an updated mission statement, vision statement and values and goals for 2016 to 2018.

■ An amendment to the 2014-20 transit development plan.

■ A request for proposals for advertising services.

■ Approval of a salary and wage scale for non-represented personnel.

■ Travel authorization for a state Transit Association legislative conference.

■ Election of board officers for 2016.

Clallam PUD

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners’ meetings for Monday; and Dec. 28 have been canceled.

The next regular meeting will be Jan. 4.

Sequim School Board

The Sequim School Board of Directors will consider a new policy concerning gifted students when it meets Monday.

The regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the district boardroom at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

The board is considering adoption of an academic acceleration policy, under which students who meet state standards in a particular area are automatically enrolled in the next most rigorous level of advanced courses.

The ultimate goal is that these students will eventually be eligible for automatic enrollment in dual-credit courses, according to the district.
