Clallam County commissioners will hear a presentation on the environmental, health and safety risks associated with a metal shop on U.S. Highway 101 at a meeting that begins at 9 a.m. Monday.
The work session will be in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Midway Metals at 258010 U.S. Highway 101 between Port Angeles and Sequim has seen unregulated dumping and has been found to be the source of pollution, Clallam County health and planning officials said.
Other agenda items for the work session include:
• An agreement with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe to purchase right of way for the Dry Creek Road reconstruction project.
• A briefing and call for hearing on a resolution regarding proposed changes to county policy for creating and amending ordinances.
Commissioners will conduct their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Action items include:
• An agreement with state Department of Ecology for a solid waste management community litter cleanup program.
• An agreement with Children’s Home Society of Washington for a court-based parenting engagement, mentor and education program that promotes safe and timely unification of children and parents.
• An agreement with Port of Port Angeles for the use of a portion of William R. Fairchild International Airport property for staging of demolition derby participants for the 2019 Clallam County Fair.
• An agreement with Gold Buckle Rodeo Company for rodeo stock for the fair.
• A grant from the state Department of Commerce to provide safety and stability to youth in a secure crisis residential center.
• An agreement with Cordant Health Solutions to serve as a collection facility.
• An agreement with the state Department of Children, Youth and Families for coverage until an application is received for support block grant programs for juvenile offenders.
• An agreement with the state Department of Children, Youth and Families for coverage until an application is received to provide funding to expand evidence-based treatment and training programs administered by local juvenile courts.
• Notice that the preliminary county budget will be available Sept. 10.
• A letter of intent to the state Department of Veterans Affairs regarding a request for proposals.
Port Angeles city
The Port Angeles City Council will conduct a first reading on a proposal to update the vehicle licensing code to allow companies such as Uber and Lyft to operate within the city at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The meeting will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth. St.
Action on the proposal is expected Aug. 20.
Other agenda items for the Tuesday meeting include:
• A contract for a beach nourishment project near the former city landfill.
• Final contract acceptance for the 10th Street reconstruction project.
• A maintenance contract renewal for city emergency generators.
• Wastewater utility updates to the municipal code.
• A 2019 budget amendment.
• A renewed professional services agreement with Olympic Peninsula Community Clinic for the mental health field response team.
The City Council will conduct an executive session at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to discuss collective bargaining.
A think tank will follow in an open session at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. At 5:30 p.m. Monday, the council will hold a special meeting to appoint committees to prepare arguments for and against a ballot proposition to enact a 0.1 percent sales tax increase to fund affordable housing initiatives.
Sequim city
A quorum of the Sequim City Council may be in attendance at a meeting hosted by the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting will be at the Guy Cole Event Center in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., Sequim.
The tribe will host the meeting to provide information concerning a medication-assisted treatment clinic it proposes in the city of Sequim.
Sequim schools
The Sequim School Board will consider accepting a letter of resignation from Robin Henrikson when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.
The board will meet at the district office at 503 N. Sequim Ave.
Henrikson’s July 18 letter said her resignation was effective immediately.
The board also will considering adopting a 2019-20 budget with a $41,723 general fund. It will consider approving a food service contract with Sodexo, as well as several policies.
Planning commission
The Clallam County Planning Commission will conduct a work session to create a survey for public input regarding mineral resource lands at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The meeting will be in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.
As part of the county’s public participation plan, staff is seeking input from the Planning Commission to draft a survey to solicit input from the public, community groups and interested parties prior to developing comprehensive plan updates related to mineral resource lands.
Fire District 3
Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will consider a mobilization agreement with the State Patrol when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Commissioners will meet at 323 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
Also on the agenda are updates on policies about sick leave, restricted duty and employment of relatives.
The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.
