EYE ON CLALLAM: Commissioners to discuss interview panel in hiring hearing examiner

The three Clallam County commissioners Monday will discuss forming an ad hoc interview committee to assist the board in hiring the next hearing examiner.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The committee as proposed will include representatives of the building, environmental and legal communities.

Hearing examiners adjudicate land-use matters in a quasi-judicial capacity.

Other discussion items for the work session include:

■ Board representation on the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.

■ A request for proposals for online video streaming of board meetings and on-demand accessibility.

■ Contract extensions with First Step Family Support Center and Peninsula Behavioral Health.

■ A funding request from the Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services.

■ An agreement with the state Military Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to support state and local efforts to prevent terrorism and other catastrophic events.

■ An emergency management briefing on the Cascadia Subduction Zone and a draft resolution.

■ Execution of right-of-way acquisition for Lower Elwha Road reconstruction.

■ A trails grant application from the state Recreation and Conservation Office.

■ A contract amendment with the Washington Federal Lands Highway Division adding funding.

■ A proposed letter to the Army Corps of Engineers regarding the lower Dungeness River ecosystem restoration project.

■ An agreement with the state Department of Ecology for implementation of lower Dungeness River floodplain enhancements.

Commissioners will hold their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

■ An agreement with Kembrio Inc. for a performance review of the county administrator.

■ A contract amendment with Reflections Counseling Services Group changing Department of Behavioral Health and Recovery language.

■ An easement purchase for the Carlsborg sewer project.

■ A bid opening for carpet replacement in the Superior Court Clerk’s Office.

■ A resolution closing funds no longer in use.

■ A resolution appointing a deputy clerk of the board.

■ Notice of an April 19 hearing on proposed amendments to veterans assistance policy.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider the role of the commission, executive director and organizational structure when it meets Monday.

The special meeting will be at 9 a.m. at 338 W. First St.

The agenda lists an executive session from noon to 2 p.m. and lists a possible second closed session at the end of the meeting.

Commissioners also will consider a contract for Terminal 3 evaluation, the commission meeting agenda format and authority for the state.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will consider several policies when it meets Monday.

The board will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. at 503 N. Sequim Ave. It will conduct a workshop on assessment at 5:30 p.m.

It will consider policies on emergency treatment, excused and unexcused absences, suicide prevention and nutrition and physical fitness.

Quillayute Valley schools

The Quillayute Valley School Board will consider high school graduation requirements when it meets Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the library at Forks High School, 261 Spartan Ave.

The board also will hear a report on enrollment projections.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will hold its monthly meeting in Sequim on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St.

Agenda items include designation of reserve funds levels, a state Transportation Alternatives Program grant application, memorandums of commendation, status updates, staff reports and customary business.

Finance committee

The Clallam County Finance Committee will discuss the state of various county funds in light of proposed expenditures for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center and the Carlsborg sewer project Thursday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Library system

The North Olympic Library System trustees will consider disposal of surplus equipment and furnishings when they meet Thursday.

The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Trustees also will consider a new shipping vendor contract, hear a presentation on information technology and hear reports on February activities.

Clallam PUD

The Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners’ meeting for Monday has been canceled.

The next meeting will be a work session March 28.
