EYE ON CLALLAM: Commissioners to discuss experimental nutrition education

Clallam County commissioners will hear an update on a U.S. Department of Agriculture-funded project to help prevent chronic disease through experimental nutrition education when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The work session will be in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other discussion items for the work session include:

• An update on Olympic Community Action Programs activities.

• An agreement with attorney John Black for juvenile offender attorney services.

• An agreement with Robinson Noble to assist in obtaining the state Department of Ecology’s approval for a water rights application for the Carlsborg Urban Growth Area.

Commissioners will hear a quarterly report from the state Department of Natural Resources at 1 p.m. Monday.

Agenda items for the DNR meeting include forest inventory updates, a response to questions from the county board and to identify topics for the next meeting.

Commissioners will discuss indigent defense services in a continued work session at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The board will hold its regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

• A certificate of appreciation recognizing retiring Public Works Administrative Director Bob Martin.

• A resolution adopting a budget reduction and supplemental appropriations.

• A cooperation agreement between the county and the Jamestown S’Kallam Tribe for tax exemption and payment in lieu of taxes.

• An agreement with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission for funding to enhance the Washington State 24/7 sobriety program.

• An agreement with the state of Department of Ecology for renewal of a litter cleanup program.

• A bid opening for security improvements for Clallam County Superior Court.

Port Angeles City Council

The Port Angeles City Council will hear a presentation on emergency management preparedness from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The work session will be in council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

The council also will meet in closed session from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. to discuss collective bargaining.

Sequim City Council

The Sequim City Council will recap a recent neighborhood revisioning session and consider its contract with the Clallam County Economic Development Corp. when it meets in a work session at 5 p.m. Monday.

The council meeting will be in the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St. The business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with a welcome of visitors from Shiso, Japan.

The council will review the proposed 2018 budget and proposed rates and fees.

It will consider changes to the dangerous dogs ordinance, review a proposed legislative agenda and discuss the city’s possible involvement with the North Olympic Legislative Alliance.

Forks City Council

The Forks City Council will discuss state Department of Fish and Wildlife halibut quota management when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The council will meet at City Hall at 500 E. Division St.

Council members also will discuss speed limit revisions.

Port Angeles schools

The Port Angeles School Board will conduct a planning workshop Friday and Saturday.

The board will meet at the Lincoln Center, 905 W. Ninth St.

Crescent schools

The Crescent School Board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The board will meet in the library at the school at 50350 state Highway 112 in Joyce.

Library system

The North Olympic Library System Board of Trustees may consider approving a contract with architects for Sequim branch conceptual design Thursday.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The board of trustees also will hear a presentation from Assistant Library Director Noah Glaude called “Presenting NOLS.”

NOP Development Council

The North Olympic Peninsula Development Council will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at John Wayne Marine.

An agenda was not available as of Saturday.

Clallam PUD

The Clallam County Public Utility District has canceled a commissioners meeting originally set for Monday.

The next regular meeting will be Oct. 2.
