Clallam County commissioners will discuss a Lodging Tax Advisory Committee recommendation to allocate $50,000 to the Feiro Marine Life Center at a meeting that begins at 9 a.m. Monday.
The work session will be in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
The $50,000 would be used to develop a conceptual design and business plan for the future of the marine life center on the Port Angeles waterfront.
Other discussion items for the work session include:
• A contract amendment with the state Department of Corrections to extend a performance period for the transportation of female inmates to the state detention center in Purdy from the Clallam County jail.
• An agreement with Washington State University Extension to provide educational programs in Clallam County.
• Proposed changes to the auditor’s fee schedule.
• An agreement with Clear Ballot Group, Inc., for a new elections ballot tabulation system.
• A right-of-way easement purchase for Old Olympic Highway.
• An agreement with the state Recreation and Conservation Office to allow the county to be reimbursed for Spruce Railroad Trail and Daley Rankin tunnel restoration expenses.
Commissioners will meet in the same room at 7:30 a.m. Monday to discuss advisory committees.
A continued work session will be held at 1 p.m. Monday for a discussion on next steps for GIS, or global information systems.
Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Action items include:
• A call for bids for a guardrail repair project.
• A request for qualifications from real estate brokerage firms for the sale of county-owned surplus property.
• A resolution reappointing David Colthorp to the Port Crescent Pioneer Cemetery Advisory Board.
• A resolution authorizing action on current use assessment applications.
• A public hearing on the sale of surplus real property and agreements with William Shore Memorial Pool District for the transfer of the Peninsula Behavioral Health Horizon Center property at 205 E. Fifth St., in Port Angeles.
Port of Port Angeles
Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider appointing a claims agent at a meeting that begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Commissioners will meet at the Port of Port Angeles building, 338 W. First St.
Commissioners also will hear a report on a tour of SPI Mill, time permitting.
Port Angeles city
The Port Angeles City Council will conduct its second think tank to brainstorm ideas and discuss policy at a meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The meeting will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth.
No action will be taken.
Conservation District
The Clallam Conservation District board will discuss an interlocal agreement with the Sequim Prairie-Tri Irrigation Association for irrigation ditch piping and aquifer projects Tuesday.
The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in Suite H at Armory Square, 228 W. First St., Port Angeles.
Other agenda items include:
• An interlocal agreement with the Mason Conservation District for irrigation ditch piping and aquifer project engineering assistance.
• A professional services contract with Gideon Cauffman for cultural resources surveys.
• Financial assistance for two Sequim-area lots for onsite septic design.
• Cooperator and cost share agreements.
Library system
North Olympic Library System trustees will consider funding for replacement of the Sequim Library when they meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The special meeting will be at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
Trustees will consider establishing a Sequim Library Capital Facility Area and finance committee recommendations for supplementary funding. They also will hear a final report from SHKS Architects.
Sequim schools
The Sequim School Board will hear a report on the McKinney-Vento Act and homeless youth when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.
The board will meet at the district office, 503 N. Sequim Ave.
The federal act defines homeless children as those who lack a fixed, regular and adequate night-time residence. The number of homeless students has increased in recent years.
Board members will consider final approval of policies concerning federal and/or state funded special instructional programs and parent and student rights in administration of surveys.
Board members also will consider a letter of support for Clallam County Safe Route to Schools grant.
Strait ecosystem
The Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network will discuss and approve assignments for 64 local near-term actions in a meeting that begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
The quarterly meeting will be in the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s Community Center in the Red Cedar Hall, 1031 Old Blyn Highway, Blyn.
Port Angeles parks
The Port Angeles Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission will hold its monthly meeting Thursday.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Vern Burton Community Center meeting rooms, 308 E. Fourth St.
Peninsula College
Peninsula College trustees will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
They will meet at the Peninsula College branch in Port Townsend, at 202 Eisenhower Ave., in Fort Worden.
