EYE ON CLALLAM: Clallam County to fete retiring jail boss

The three Clallam County commissioners will recognize retiring Jail Superintendent Ron Sukert for his 37 years of service Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Sukert worked as a corrections officer and sergeant before he was chosen as superintendent in November 2006.

Action items for the commissioners’ business meeting include:

• A supplemental agreement with the state Department of Transportation adding funding for the McDonald Creek bridge replacement project.

• A contract amendment with the Department of Health adding and changing statements of work for four programs and increasing funding.

• An agreement with Nordisk Systems Inc. for SAN/Bladecenter upgrades.

• Notice that supplemental appropriations will be adopted June 27.

• A call for a June 27 hearing for the consideration of debatable budget emergencies.

Commissioners will hold their weekly work session at 9 a.m. Monday.

Discussion items include:

• A Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe presentation on a project to realign portions of Chicken Coop and Zaccardo roads.

• A road fund expenditure for a horse trailer and vehicle parking area near the Spruce Railroad Trail.

• A resolution for the closure of Old Olympic Highway at McDonald Creek bridge.

Sequim City Council

The Sequim City Council will conduct a public hearing on a proposed 103-home subdivision, Bell Hill Estates, when it meets Monday.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

It will consider a request for proposals for civic center art.

Forks City Council

The Forks City Council will consider a contract with Reid Middleton Inc. for construction administration of the Quillayute Airport runway rehabilitation project when it meets Monday.

The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at 500 E. Division St.

The council also will consider amending a resolution for a Federal Aviation Administration airport improvement project.

The council may recess into executive session.

Quillayute Valley schools

The Quillayute Valley School Board will consider adoption of the Forks High School science curriculum when it meets Tuesday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. in the library at Forks High School, 261 Spartan Ave.

It also will consider a state audit report, a budget adoption timeline, resignations and hirings, and out-of-state travel requests.

Clallam Conservation District

Clallam Conservation District members will hear an update on an irrigation and aquifer recharge project Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in Suite H at Armory Square, 228 W. First St., Port Angeles.

Other updates will be on a Sequim School District roof runoff collection demonstration project, a Golden Sands on-site septic system (OSS) update and OSS cost-share policy revisions.

District members will also hear a presentation from a Washington Association of Conservation Districts representative.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees are expected to elect board officers when they meet Tuesday.

Trustees will meet at 2 p.m. in the Cornaby Center on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Items on the action agenda include 2017-18 board meeting dates, the 2018-19 and 2019-20 academic year calendars, and resolutions on budget approval.

After the public forum, trustees will hear various standing reports.

An executive session may be held.

Clallam PUD

The Clallam County Public Utility District meeting originally scheduled for Monday has been canceled.
