EYE ON CLALLAM: Clallam board to discuss administrator search

Clallam County commissioners will discuss the next steps in the recruitment of a county administrator Tuesday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Current Clallam County Administrator Jim Jones announced last week that he plans to retire Sept. 1.

Commissioners hope to develop a timeline for the transition by the end of March.

Other discussion items for the work session include contract change orders for projects to replace a courthouse boiler and roof over the jail.

Work sessions are typically held on Mondays. This week’s session was moved to Tuesday because of Presidents Day.

Commissioners will conduct their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

• Agreements with Harper Ridgeview Funeral Chapel and Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel for services and fees for work performed where the coroner has invoked jurisdiction.

• Resolution authorizing the chair to sign a new commercial ground lease agreement with the Port of Port Angeles for the property on which the Juvenile and Family Services Building sits.

• A proposed bid award to Lakeside Industries of Port Angeles for an annual supply of hot mix and liquid asphalt.

• A public hearing on a proposed resolution declaring four vehicles as surplus property and authorizing sale.

• A public hearing on a proposal to establish Harrison Street, Dorthea Way and Valley Center Place as county roads.

City of Port Angeles

The Port Angeles City Council will hear an update on the state Department of Transportation’s efforts to construct a new bridge for U.S. Highway 101 over the Elwha River on Tuesday.

The regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth. St.

It will be preceded by a closed executive session at 5 p.m. to discuss potential litigation and to consider the minimum price at which real estate will be offered.

Other agenda items for the regular meeting include a presentation on recycled carbon fiber benches, a construction contract for Tumwater bridge rehabilitation and an ordinance updating financial policies for purchasing and bidding.

Port Angeles School District

The Port Angeles School District Board of Directors is expected to announce its final choice for superintendent on Thursday.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary School, 218 E. 12th St.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will discuss a proposal to repeal and replace landscape requirements in the county code Wednesday.

The work session will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

The draft ordinance includes a new purpose statement, applicability, general landscape requirements, landscape plans and requirements, parking lot requirements, screening of refuse dumpsters, plant standards and an alternative landscape plan.

Opportunity Fund

The Clallam County Opportunity Fund Advisory Board will hear a presentation from the William Shore Memorial Pool District on Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in Room 230 in the Lincoln Center, 905 W. Ninth St.

The pool district is seeking a short-term line of credit/loan to be used for initial payments for architect and engineering costs for essential building modifications, and a grant toward the construction of a new aquatic center.

The Opportunity Fund is a portion of state sales tax earmarked for infrastructure projects in rural counties.

North Olympic Library System

The North Olympic Library System Board of Trustees will discuss Sequim branch expansion Thursday.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Sequim branch library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Other agenda items include revisions to fiscal management policies, library closures for staff training days and designation of signature authorities.

Olympic Medical Center

Olympic Medical Center commissioners will hear about 2017 audited financial statements when they meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be in Linkletter Hall in the basement of the hospital at 939 E. Caroline St., Port Angeles.

Commissioners also will consider a physician employment contract, and hear safety update and administrator’s report.

Sequim School Board

The Sequim School Board will conduct a budget extension hearing for the debt service fund when it meets at 6 p.m.

The board will meet in the district office, 503 N. Sequim Ave.

The board also will consider several policies including education of students with disabilities; drug-free schools, community and workplace; and use of tobacco and nicotine products.

Quillayute Valley School Board

The Quillayute Valley School Board will conduct a work session on at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The board will meet at the library at the Forks High School, 261 Spartan Ave.

An executive session is planned to discuss real estate.

Fire District No. 3

Clallam County Fire District No. 3 commissioners will consider a service delivery study when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 323 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. It will be preceded by a special meeting to review the proposed commissioners handbook.

Commissioners also will consider 2017 wildland billing report and standard operating procedure for hearing loss prevention, inventory control and hazard communication.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.

Strait ERN

The Strait Ecosystem Recovery Network will hear a presentation on the 2017 Cypress Island Atlantic salmon net pen failure and possible have a panel discussion on Atlantic salmon net pen Aquaculture when it meets from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Clallam PUD

There will be no meeting of the Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners in observance of President’s Day.

The next business meeting will be on Feb. 26.

Board of Health

The Clallam County Board of Health meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

The next meeting will be on March 20.
