EYE ON CLALLAM: Board of Health to discuss opioid litigation, homelessness

The Clallam County Board of Health will discuss opioid litigation and the Homelessness Task Force when it meets at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Other agenda items include the introduction of Dr. Allison Berry Unthank, new Clallam County health officer, and updates on staffing and a suicide prevention program.

Clallam County

Clallam County commissioners will discuss stormwater permitting when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The work session will be in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other discussion items for the work session include:

• An amended agreement with the Federal Highway Administration for a Spruce Railroad Trail segment.

• A monthly review of 2018 budget performance.

• An update on the Shoreline Master Program update.

Commissioners will hold their regular business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Scheduled action items include:

• A letter to the cities of Port Angeles and Sequim regarding criminal justice services.

• A proclamation recognizing the 30th anniversary of the Dungeness River Management Team.

• Agreements with Clallam County Public Utility District and the city of Forks to provide space for a ballot drop box.

• A requests for proposals and qualifications for 2019 chemical dependency and mental health services.

• Notice of an Oct. 2 public hearing for consideration of a countywide planning policy.

• A public hearing for the declaration and sale of surplus property.

County/Forks

The Forks City Council will hold a joint meeting with Clallam County commissioners Monday.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Forks City Hall, 500 E. Division St.

Agenda items include:

• State Department of Natural Resources issues.

• Economic development and the Emerald Coast Opportunity Zone.

• A Clallam County District Court II and city of Forks lease agreement.

• Clallam County animal control.

• High-speed internet.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will discuss preliminary capital and operating budgets for 2019 when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at the port administration building, 338 W. First St.

It will begin with a work session that also will deal with strategic initiative priorities.

Olympic Medical Center

Olympic Medical Center commissioners will hear an update on Medicare reimbursement cuts when they meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

They will meet in Linkletter Hall located in the basement conference area of the hospital at 939 Caroline St.

Commissioners also will consider a bid for the Sequim Cancer Center and Primary Care Expansion project.

An executive session is planned to discuss current or potential litigation.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will consider a professional services agreement for a housing needs assessment at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Other agenda items include:

• An ordinance amending a code chapter related to the city hearing examiner.

• A discussion on the development of an Indigenous Peoples Day.

• Proposed regulatory changes to Olympic Medical Center reimbursements.

• A discussion of a 2019 Comprehensive Plan amendment.

• An additional deposit for the Port Angeles Harbor cleanup process.

• The replacement of fire department ambulance.

• A memorandum of understanding with Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics.

• Presentation of a Police Star Medal to Systems Coordinator Gary Brooks and a Distinguished Service Award to Communications Supervisor Deb Homan.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will hold its regular business meeting in Forks at 1 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be at Forks City Hall, 500 E. Division St.

Action items include a contract for legal services, a discrimination and harassment prevention policy and a workplace violence prevention policy.

The board will hear monthly updates from the general manager, finance, operations, maintenance and administration departments and recognize Transit Operator David Larrabee for winning the 35-foot coach event at the 2018 North Olympic Peninsula Regional Bus Roadeo.

Public Utility District

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will consider adopting a travel policy in a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in the Lake Crescent Boardroom at the Carlsborg main office at 104 Hooker Road.

The commissioners may hold an executive session to evaluate the qualifications of candidates for elected office. They may consider filling the vacant District 2 commissioners’ seat after the executive session, according to the agenda.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will consider legislative priorities when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The board will meet at the district office at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

It also will consider policies on the Highly Capable Program, student fees and fines and student learning.

The board may recess into executive session to discuss the performance of a public employee. The board will meet for approximately 45 minutes to discuss a personnel item with no action taken, the agenda says.

Marine Resources

The Clallam County Marine Resources Committee will hear a presentation on efforts to remove the Snake River dams when they meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Other agenda items include an update on CoastSavers and it new chapter, the Dungeness River Festival booth and project updates on Olympia oyster restoration, shellfish biotoxin, pigeon guillemot, kelp monitoring and the intern program.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will conduct a pair of public hearings on applications for comprehensive plan and zoning map amendments at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Fire District 3

Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will hear a facility maintenance budget forecast when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

They meet at 323 N. Fifth Ave., in Sequim.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.
