EYE ON CLALLAM: County to consider preliminary budget

Clallam County commissioners will receive a preliminary 2021 budget

The three Clallam County commissioners will receive a preliminary 2021 budget at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The virtual business meeting can be viewed at www.clallam.net/features/meetings.html.

According to an executive summary, the preliminary general fund budget shows $41.5 million in revenue and $45 million in expenditures, leaving a general fund balance of $9.5 million.

Other agenda items for the meeting include:

• An agreement with the state Department of Commerce to conduct an assessment of the needs of the county’s homeless population.

• A land purchase agreement for the Towne Road dike relocation project.

• A contract amendment with the state Department of Social and Health Services for programs for persons with developmental disabilities.

• An agreement with Kitsap Public Health District for the provision of a youth marijuana prevention and education program.

• Agreements with the state Administrative Office of the Courts for support of the CASA/Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem program and BECCA program.

• Notice of a Sept. 29 public hearing on a proposed ordinance amending code for mineral resources.

• A resolution to initiate a county road project for Laird Road resurfacing.

Commissioners will conduct their weekly work session at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The county courthouse will be closed Monday for Labor Day.

Discussion items for the work session include:

• An agreement with K&H Printers for printing and mailing of 2020 general election ballots.

• An agreement with Environmental Science Associates — and an amended agreement with Puget Sound Partnership — for the county’s Shoreline Master Program.

• A resolution appointing Colleen Robinson to the Peninsula Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.

• An update on the allocation of federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding.

Charter Review

The Clallam County Charter Review Commission will discuss homelessness and forester recommendations when it meets at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will discuss a draft capital budget when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Conservation District

Clallam Conservation District commissioners will discuss a long-range water plan update when they meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Commissioners also will discuss farm survey results and grant proposals.

Port Angeles schools

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will consider a COVID-19 and infectious disease management plan when it meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The board also will consider policies on excused or unexcused absences and on the response to student injury or illness.
