PORT ANGELES — Mary Hebert, who served as Dry Creek Elementary principal for seven years, is coming back.

She will serve as the school’s interim principal for the 2013-2014 school year.

She re-places Sean Schoenfeldt, who has resigned.

Her interim appointment, announced last week by Port Angeles Superintendent Jane Pryne, is pending approval by the School Board at its July meeting.

Hebert retired in June 2010 from the position of assistant superintendent with the Port Angeles School District.

33 years in education

She had worked in education for almost 33 years, 30 of those years in Port Angeles and three in Western Washington districts.

Hebert began her career with the Port Angeles School District in 1979 as a reading specialist at Hamilton Elementary.

She subsequently taught kindergarten, second grade, third grade and in a multi-age classroom program, grades 3-5.

Hebert began her instructional leadership service in Port Angeles schools as principal of Fairview Elementary in 1997 and then began a seven-year appointment in 1999 as Dry Creek Elementary principal.

She was appointed assistant superintendent for human resource and elementary programs in 2006, a position she held until retirement.

‘Extremely honored’

“I was extremely honored by the opportunity to work with Mary Hebert during my first year in Port Angeles,” Pryne said Friday.

“Not only is she an incredibly caring person and advocate for students, staff and teachers, but she is also dedicated, hardworking and an outstanding addition to our administrative team.

“We are so fortunate to have her return to the Port Angeles School District and Dry Creek Elementary in the role as interim principal.”

Hebert earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Washington University and her principal certification from Seattle Pacific University.
