QUEETS — An escaped Olympic Corrections Center inmate was apprehended Tuesday night 25 miles south from the minimal-security work camp.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office found 27-year-old Darby R. Maguire at about 9:20 p.m. near the Queets-Clearwater School off U.S. Highway 101 after receiving a phone call from an unidentified person who spotted the convict, the state Department of Corrections said.
Maguire, who escaped Saturday evening from the camp south of Forks, was treated for scratches at OCC before being transferred to the Washington Corrections Center near Shelton.
Corrections spokesman Chad Lewis said it appeared he received the scratches from walking through the woods.
Lewis described Maguire as being “tired, cold and hungry” when deputies brought him back to the work camp.
He was taken into custody without incident, Lewis said.
Maguire was serving a 4½-year sentence after being convicted of three counts of third-degree assault and one count of second-degree robbery in Whatcom County.
He could face additional charges for the escape.
