Erin go bragh mixes with aloha on St. Patrick’s Day in Sequim

SEQUIM — Traditional Hawaiian music, played by the duo known as Naki’i, will pair with a traditional Irish meal this coming Tuesday in a public event at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

It’s called Music Live with Lunch, and it will start at noon with Naki’i’s eight-song set.

In this half-hour performance, listeners will travel from “I Hear Music” and “The Aloha Spirit Song” to “E Hihiwai,” a song from the island of Molokai.

Naki’i is Mike and Erma Kuenzli, longtime players of original and traditional music inspired by traditional Hawaiian life.

Then, as Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day, a lunch of corned beef and cabbage will be served in the parish hall.

The preservative-free corned beef will be brined in-house, promised organizer Sammy Greenwood.

Tickets to Music Live with Lunch are $10 at the door. Those who want to make reservations or find out more should phone St. Luke’s office at 360-683-4862.

“With our eight selections, we hope to say that music carries hopes for a better world, celebrates the beauty of our homeland and illustrates the shared values of people elsewhere who are not so different from ourselves,” the Naki’i pair writes in an invitation to Tuesday’s event.

Music Live with Lunch began some 25 years ago at St Luke’s, thanks to the late Lou Yandell and her husband, Bill, who wanted to offer a midday interlude to people in and around Sequim.

The noontime concert and meal are held on the third Tuesday of the month, now through May.
