ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS: Open house, art studio event slated . . . and other items

SEQUIM — Artist Carrie Rodlend will host her fifth annual Open House and Art Studio Event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 562 Holgerson Road.

Light refreshments will be provided.

“For several years now, I have created a time and space to welcome the general public into my studio beside the Dungeness Wildlife Refuge,” Rodlend said.

“Here, on the small and scenic acreage of my home, friends and visitors can relax at their leisure.”

Each year, Rodlend produces a large body of new art work for sale such as local landscapes, and an assortment of small paintings resulting from Rodlend’s weekly commitment to paint around a full working schedule.

“These paintings are acyllic on canvas, affordable and original,” she said, and are “accompanied with a large assortment of cards and frameable sketches.”

For more than 20 years, “I have been a part of introducing art and its concepts to Sequim elementary students, largely through generous donations and fundraising efforts of the local parent teacher organization” as part of a program known as “Carrie Art,” Rodlend said.

“With this in mind, I have scheduled the open house date whilst the schools are still in session, as perhaps interested students could have the opportunity to visit an artist’s studio,” she said.

Men With Guitars

SEQUIM — Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., will host Men With Guitars, a group of musicians who perform music from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets for this event are not sold in advance.

Mujeres de Maíz, translated as “Women of Corn,” is a registered nonprofit, tax-exempt group based in Sequim.

The small, independent, grass-roots nonprofit organization was established about a decade ago to provide access to education for young women in a seamstress cooperative centered in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.

Men With Guitars features Jim Faddis, Rick Meade, Bill Tiderman, Dale Hilderbrand, Forrest Gilchrist and Kevin Munro.

The concert “should be a really fun event,” said Judith Pasco, Mujeres de Maíz board chair.
