Singer heads to Soundlab on Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — Psychedelic-folk-Americana artist Joanne Rand is on tour in support of her forthcoming CD, and she’s headed for Port Townsend for a concert at the Toolshed Soundlab Studio this Sunday evening.

George Rezendes, owner of the Toolshed, will host the 7:30 p.m. show, for which admission is on a sliding scale of $15 to $20.

Rand, a singer born and bred in the Deep South, calls her songs “snapshots of humanity: our potential and our foibles.”

She calls herself hopeful and “captivated with the human race.”

To get in on Sunday’s concert, email Rezendes at george@toolshedsoundlab.com or visit www.toolshedsoundlab.com.

‘V-E’ auditions

PORT ANGELES — Auditions for “V-E Day,” a Readers Theatre Plus production, are set for this Sunday with director Pat Owens.

Tryouts will start at 1 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Grange Hall, 2432 Mount Pleasant Road, which is 2½ miles south of U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles.

Just one performance of “V-E Day” will take place at the grange hall Friday, May 8, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of World War II’s Victory in Europe Day, on which the Allied Forces accepted Germany’s surrender.

The play, written by Faye Sholiton, has roles for five women and two men of various ages.

In this story, an old friend suddenly appears unannounced at the doorstep of Evelyn, a widow and former professional photographer.

He stirs up memories of a time long past, and the far-ranging effects of events and decisions that had been all but forgotten.

Five rehearsals will be held, all at 6:30 p.m., on April 27-28 and May 4-6.

For information, email the director at pjowens@olypen.com.

Admission is $5 for the dance only or $15 for the whole night.
