ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFLY — Readers Theatre Plus production wraps up … and coming events

‘Nice Family Gathering’ to wrap up

SEQUIM — “A Nice Family Gathering,” a comedy about love and secrets among parents and siblings, has just three more performances at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road.

Curtain time for this Readers Theatre Plus show is 7 p.m. this evening and Saturday and finally

2:30 p.m. Sunday, with tickets at $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Proceeds benefit the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra.

Advance tickets are on sale in Port Angeles at Port Book and News, 104 E. First St., and in Sequim at the Good Book-Joyful Noise Music Center, 112 W. Washington St., and Sequim Village Glass, 761 Carlsborg Road.

For more information, phone the Port Angeles Symphony office at 360-457-5579.

Bluegrass times 2

SEQUIM — Slipshod, the Portland-based bluegrass duo of Steve Blanchard — also known for playing with the Prairie Flyer band — and Matt Snook, will give a pair of concerts next weekend.

First up is the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, on Friday, Oct. 31, and then Slipshod will head for the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Both shows will start at 7 p.m. with an admission price of $10.

‘I Love You’ tryouts

SEQUIM — Two men and two women are wanted for “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” the musical comedy to arrive at Olympic Theatre Arts in January, so auditions are set for two days next month: Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m.

Both tryouts will be at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

“It’s an incredibly fast-paced production all about love,” said director Pat Owens.

“If you’re the sort of actor who likes running your tail off, changing characters (and costumes) in the blink of an eye, singing a song like there’s no tomorrow and having a heck of a lot of fun doing it, then this is the show for you.”

Each cast member in “I Love You” will play up to 18 characters ranging in age from 7 to 70, as the musical explores the Adam and Eve story, courtship, marriage, family trips and sex

Auditions will consist of cold readings plus the singing of one verse from a song of the performer’s choice but not a number from “I Love You.”

Owens and musical director Valerie Lape will bring “I Love You” to OTA from Jan. 30 to Feb. 15.

For more information, phone the OTA office between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at 360-683-7326.
