FORKS — During nearly the entire breadth of the Quillayute Valley School Board meeting Tuesday night, Forks High School Principal Steve Quick sat quietly in the front row, taking notes.
As one person after another — including high school staff — stood during the public comment session and pleaded with the School Board to fire him, Quick kept quiet.
Not even when local community activist Darrel Gaydeski grabbed the microphone and held it out to him so he could have his say did Quick speak.
But not because he didn’t want to.
“It’s frustrating to sit there and listen to it,” said Quick from his office Wednesday, a day after a dramatic School Board meeting — which he described as being “like Jerry Springer” — saw all typed of accusations heaped on the embattled principal.
“A lot of people see it as me being arrogant when I don’t speak my piece, but I was specifically given direction from Superintendent Frank Walter not to respond [at the meeting].”
For months, Quick has been at center of protests, including two student walkouts.
