PORT ANGELES — Candidates for 2017 North Olympic Peninsula Conservation District Board of Supervisors elections must file in February.
The deadline for the Jefferson County Conservation District is 4 p.m. Feb. 1.
The Clallam County Conservation District’s deadline is 4 p.m. Feb. 14.
Both boards have one elected position open.
The Jefferson County election will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 1 at the district office at 205 W. Patison St., Port Hadlock.
The Clallam County election will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 14 at the district office at Armory Square Office Building, 228 W. First St., Suite H, Port Angeles.
Absentee ballots are available upon request for eligible voters. They must be requested in Jefferson County by 4 p.m. Feb. 8 and in Clallam County by 4 p.m. Feb. 21.
Julie Boggs’ elected seat is open in Jefferson County. Candidates must be registered voters living in the conservation district, and may be required to own land or operate a farm.
Robert Beebe has filed for reelection to his seat in Clallam County. His three-year term expires in 2017. Anyone residing and registered to vote in Clallam County is eligible to run for the position.
Positions are uncompensated, volunteer seats.
Clallam County has announced that each interested candidate must submit a candidate information form as well as a nominating petition signed by 25 or more registered Clallam County voters. Jefferson County directs interested candidates to its district office.
Five positions comprise the Conservation District Board of Supervisors. Each serves a three-year term of office without compensation.
Three are elected. The Washington State Conservation Commission appoints the other two positions.
No appointed positions are open in 2017 in Clallam County.
One appointed seat is open on the Jefferson County board.
Applicants for appointed positions do not have to live within the district. Applications and supporting materials for the appointed position must be received by the state commission no later than March 31.
