BEAVER — An elderly woman was killed in a collision Monday morning when a semi-truck and trailer hit her from behind.
Carol Cook, 70, was turning southbound on U.S. Highway 101 from Maxfield Road, going at a slow rate of speed, when a semi-truck and trailer, also on Maxfield Road, struck her vehicle from behind and sent both vehicles into a nearby ditch at 9:40 a.m., according to the State Patrol.
“Because her vehicle was traveling at a slower rate of speed than the semi-truck, the truck closed the distance and collided with the rear end of her vehicle rapidly, accelerating her and pushing her into the ditch,” Trooper Gill Vandenkooy.
Cook, who was driving a 2007 Saturn SE, was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving attempts by paramedics, the State Patrol said.
No charges had been filed by Monday afternoon against the driver of the semi-truck, identified by the State Patrol as Michael Rondeau, 21.
