PORT ANGELES — Brief delays for through-traffic on the Tumwater Truck Route are expected until the Tumwater Creek bridge is completed in the fall.
The new Tumwater Creek bridge, and its twin, the Valley Creek bridge, both of which are on Eighth Street in Port Angeles are under construction.
“They are up in the air now, so this probably will last until the project is done,” said city spokeswoman Teresa Pierce.
“The target is the fall of 2008. The contractor can’t be any more precise than that.”
The $18.4 million bridge project began in August.
Workers for contractor Parsons RCI of Sumner are installing the brackets to hold the bottom forms of the Tumwater Creek bridge deck and the overhangs for the sidewalks, she said.
So a temporary deck will be installed on the bridge over Tumwater Truck Route to catch any falling debris.
“If they happen to drop something, this will catch it,” Pierce said.
“But the traffic stoppages could occur anytime as they are working above the bridge.
“If the contractor feels there is a safety issue, they will use flaggers to temporarily stop traffic until that task is done,” she said.
