Eight Peninsula poets to share work at Fourth Friday event

SEQUIM — An evening celebrating local writers is coming up Friday at Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co., 157 W. Cedar St., and the public is invited.

Eight poets, all of whom have published their work in the new book Last Wednesday: A Pacific Northwest Anthology of Poetry, will appear in the 6 p.m. event, which is part of the Writers on the Spit’s Fourth Friday Readings series.

Ruth Marcus, Gene Bradbury, Howard Chadwick, Judith Duncan, Jim Fisher, Mary Jill Klay, George Lindamood and Terry Moore will offer their poetry starting at 6:30 p.m., and listeners are invited to come early for coffee and treats.

If they’re so inclined, attendees can put their names in a hat to be drawn for five-minute readings.

The featured poets hope to inspire others to form writing groups and self-publish, said Marcus, who organizes the Fourth Friday Readings.

The group of eight poets, now friends, has been meeting to share and critique their poems on the last Wednesday of the month, hence the title of their 112-page anthology.

Last Wednesday encompasses a variety of poetic styles and themes, Marcus noted: Several of its contributors have been publishing for years, while for others, this is a new experience.

“It’s that time of year to focus on Thanksgiving. We are blessed to have many creative and talented writers among us,” Marcus said.
