Eight graduate to become emergency medical technicians

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services Council has announced the graduation of eight new emergency medical technicians.

The graduates are Chris Moore, East Jefferson Fire Rescue; Colleen O’Brien, Jefferson Search and Rescue; Jade Rollins, Brinnon Fire Department; Kate Strean, Olympic Ambulance; Elijah Avery; East Jefferson Fire Rescue; Cory Morgan, Discovery Bay Fire Rescue; Aiden Albers, Clallam County Fire District 3; and Ken Brotherton, Quilcene Fire Rescue.

The new EMTs completed a three-month training program that included 200 hours of classwork, practical work and EMS ride-alongs.

The training was conducted by Capt. Trevor Bergen and Tammy Ridgway, both from East Jefferson Fire Rescue, and Chief Tim Manly of the Brinnon Fire Department.

The complexity and volume of training required to qualify new EMTs makes it difficult for a small department or fire protection district to manage on its own.

The EMS council, with representatives of East Jefferson Fire and Rescue, Fire District 2 in Quilcene, Fire District 4 in Brinnon, Fire District 5 in Discovery Bay and Olympic Ambulance, is well resourced to conduct the training on a county-wide basis.

“This graduation represents a significant milestone not only for the graduates themselves but also for the entire Jefferson County community,” said Tim Manly, EMS council president. “We commend these individuals for their dedication and perseverance throughout their training, and we have every confidence that they will continue to uphold the highest standards of care as they embark on their careers as EMTs.”

For more information, call Manly at 360-796-4450 or email tmanly@brinnon fire.com.
