“The tribe and three federal agencies were sued in federal court last month by four wild fish conservation groups that claimed the tribe’s plan would threaten the river’s wild steelhead run in violation of the federal Endangered Species Act.
“The tribe last week agreed to hold off this spring on planting South Sound hatchery fish in the Elwha River and its tributaries.
“The agreement filed in U.S. District Court in Tacoma buys both parties time to continue negotiations on a long-term fish restoration plan for the river . . . “
