Eatonville woman injured in collision

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man’s failure to yield led to a woman from Eatonville being sent to a Seattle hospital, according to the State Patrol.

Michael J. Ervin, 27, was driving a GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on U.S. Highway 101 at 3:47 p.m. Saturday when he attempted a left turn onto East Beach Road and slammed head-on into a Toyota Camry sedan driven by 62-year-old Dorothy L. Nordstrom.

Nordstrom was taken to Olympic Medical Center before she was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Her condition was listed as satisfactory on Sunday.

Ervin was not hurt in the collision, the State Patrol said. He was cited for failure to yield.

According to the State Patrol, Ervin struck Nordstrom in the westbound lane and his pickup came to rest partially blocking the eastbound lane. Nordstorm’s car ended up completely blocking the westbound lane.

The westbound lane was blocked for nearly three hours, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, said the State Patrol, which reported that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the wreck.

Ervin’s pickup suffered reportable damage while Nordstrom’s car was completely destroyed, troopers said.
