Eat up and help fight cancer: ‘Pink Up’ hosts fundraiser at Chestnut Cottage in Port Angeles tonight

PORT ANGELES — Pink Up Port Angeles will take over the Chestnut Cottage tonight, so diners can eat spaghetti and tip local “celebrity” waiters to raise funds for Operation Uplift’s support of those with cancer.

The all-you-can-eat spaghetti feed will begin at 5 p.m. at the restaurant at 929 E. Front St. The meal costs $10, with waiters competing for tips and the Top Waiter award.

The dinner is the biggest fundraiser of the Port Angeles Soroptimist Noon Club’s Pink Up Port Angeles campaign, an annual fundraiser for Operation Uplift.

The Port Angeles-based group, which operates on donations with an all-volunteer board of directors, provides education, information, support meetings, a 24-hour phone line, free clinics, prostheses and wigs for both women and men with all types of cancer.

All Pink Up donations remain in Clallam County, Soroptimists said.

In 2012, the campaign netted Operation Uplift $33,800.

This year, the club is aiming to raise $40,000, said Linda deBord, campaign chairwoman.

‘Celebrity’ waiters

Tonight’s dinner will be served by “celebrities” — people well-known around town — that include Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallager; City Manager Dan McKeen; engineer Steve Zenovic, president of Zenovic & Associates Inc.; Terry Neske, owner of Windermere Real Estate/Port Angeles; Jennifer Holcomb, associate broker at Windermere; Sue Stoneman, advertising operations manager at the Peninsula Daily News; Steve Perry, PDN advertising director; Vonnie McKnight, mortgage lender for Network Funding; Kelly Raymond, senior mortgage consultant at Cherry Creek Mortgage Co.; Terri Wood, loan officer and assistant vice president at First Federal; Julie Meyers of First Federal; and Ray Gruver, State Farm Insurance agent.

First Federal again is sponsoring the entire event.

Pink ribbons appeared throughout downtown last weekend as the annual Pink Up Port Angeles campaign began. The weeklong campaign will end Sunday.

Golf tournament

On Friday will be the Pink Up Golf Tournament at Peninsula Golf Club, 824 S. Lindberg Road, Port Angeles.

The shotgun start will be at noon.

The entry fee will be $90 per golfer, or $50 for members of the Peninsula Golf Club.

Prizes will be given courtesy of the Mac Ruddell Community Fund.

They include a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE pickup truck, Maui Jim sunglasses, a Razr black golf club irons set, a Travis Mathew head-to-toe Signature outfit and $500 for an online shopping spree.

The major sponsor is All Weather Heating and Cooling.

Call Chris Repass, golf club pro, at 360-457-6501 for rules or to reserve a cart for $25.

The Pink Up Finale dinner will be Saturday at the Port Angeles CrabHouse, 221 N. Lincoln St.

It will begin at 5:30 p.m. with no-host cocktails.

Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Entertainment and live and silent auctions are planned.

Tickets are $40 in advance and at the door.

Advance tickets

Advance tickets are available at Jim’s Pharmacy, 424 E. Second St.; All Weather Heating and Cooling, 302 Kemp St.; or from any member of Soroptimist International of Port Angeles Noon Club.

Reservations also can be made by emailing jmmsparks@gmail.com or phoning 360-452-9823.

Sponsors of the finale include Wilder Auto, Union Bank and the Elwha Klallam Heritage Training Center.

On Sunday, all the pink ribbons will come down.

Volunteers will meet at the Cornerhouse Restaurant, 101 E. Front St., for breakfast and a “depink” meeting at 9 a.m.
