PORT HADLOCK — East Jefferson Fire Rescue and a unit from Naval Magazine Indian Island extinguished a small house fire on Rhody Drive near the intersection with Ness Corner Road.
Firefighters from EJFR used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. They responded at 11:41 a.m. Saturday and arrived to find smoke coming from the attic of a house.
The fire was contained to contents in a small room. After it was extinguished, the house was vented to remove the smoke. The Naval Magazine Indian Island unit assisted.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Saturday.
EJFR Assistant Chief Pete Brummel said it is especially important for people to pay attention to potential fire hazards such as electric and propane heaters, fireplaces, stoves, overloaded electrical outlets, frayed extension cords and holiday lighting during the Christmas season.
He asked residents to keep natural Christmas trees from drying out and to avoid placing candles near them.
