OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Paving of East Beach Road will begin today and continue through Saturday.
Paving will begin today at Lyre River and continue toward the intersection of Joyce-Piedmont and East Beach roads. From there, paving will continue east to the Log Cabin Resort entrance.
Access to the Spruce Railroad Trail will be blocked between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, Olympic National Park said in a news release.
Log Cabin Resort will be accessible via U.S. Highway 101 throughout today, but access will be closed between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, except for emergency vehicles. The resort can be reached via state Highway 112 during this portion of the paving project.
Work that has been completed to date on East Beach Road includes the replacement of the Log Cabin Creek culvert, which allows for fish passage, and paving patch work that began in early September.
The work is part of a three-year project to rehabilitate 12 miles of Highway 101 and 4 miles of East Beach Road at Lake Crescent. The National Park Service and Federal Highway Administration project began July 10.
Highway 101 rock scaling is complete and drilling for rock blots and dowels will begin, the park said. Travelers on Highway 101 around Lake Crescent should continue to expect half-hour delays Mondays through Fridays through the rock area during work hours.
