PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fire Department put out two fires early Tuesday morning.
One person was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles after a fire was reported in a school bus/motorhome conversion in the area of First and Vine streets at 12:17 a.m.
The person had managed to get out of the motorhome, which was 75 percent involved in flames when firefighters arrived, but was in need of medical attention, according to a fire department press release.
While an Olympic Ambulance crew treated and transported the fire victim to OMC, firefighters extinguished the fire and conducted a search for any other occupants.
None were found.
The condition of the person taken to the hospital was unknown later Tuesday.
The bus and contents were completely destroyed, the fire department said. American Red Cross will help with temporary housing, the release said.
But their work was not done for the night.
At 1:01 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 900 block of West 10th Street.
Firefighters found a 16-foot by 20-foot storage building ablaze and threatening overhead power lines and a nearby apartment building, the release said.
They extinguished the fire before it extended into the nearby apartment complex.
Port Angeles police officers evacuated the apartment building and provided traffic control, while Port Angeles City Light secured power on the scene. Olympic Ambulance provided medical standby.
The building was completely destroyed.
The cause of either fire was unknown.
Port Angeles Fire Department responded with one engine, one medic unit and two fire chiefs to the first fire and two engines and two fire chiefs to the second.
Port Angeles Police Department responded with two personnel to the first fire and three to the second.
Olympic Ambulance responded to both blazes.
