SEQUIM — Customers of Estates Inc. water system near Sequim are urged to boil water before consuming because it tested for E. coli bacteria.
The 350 affected homes are in the vicinity of Woodcock Road and Kitchen-Dick Road west of Sequim, the state Department of Health said.
No illnesses have been reported related to the water, the department said.
Those in the area use bottled water or boil water used for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice or preparing food, officials said.
To kill the bacteria, water must be boiled for at least 1 minute and then cooled before it is consumed.
“We’re doing everything possible to find the cause of the bacteria in the water and eliminate it,” said Eric Thomas, owner and operator of the system.
“Ensuring safe drinking water is critical to the health of our customers, and we’re responding to this situation on a priority basis.”
The Department of Health was not sure when the advisory will end.
