A woman who became separated from her husband after winds increased during a kayaking trip Thursday was rescued from Dungeness Bay by a helicopter from the Port Angeles Coast Guard Air Station.
The woman, who wasn’t identified by Coast Guard officials, was unhurt.
Helicopter pilot Lt. Brian Erickson said the woman was stranded on a portion of the Dungeness Spit south of the New Dungeness Light in 41 mph gusts.
Erickson said the woman’s husband had beached his kayak and hiked to the lighthouse, where he talked to the helicopter crew by telephone.
Both people were both wearing dry suits, he said.
Other members of the helicopter team were Lt. j.g. Jason Gefland, Petty Officer 2nd Class Vince Cendages and Petty Officer 3rd Class Eric Barhan, the rescue swimmer.
