CAPE GEORGE — A Port Townsend woman was killed Monday when her car collided with a dump truck, which rolled up and crushed the small car.
The State Patrol identified the woman as Heather Louise Hendricks, 59, who was driving the green 1995 Mazda MX3 southbound on Cape George Drive, attempting a left turn onto Cape George Road
The dump truck was pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with heavy construction equipment westbound out of Cape George Colony when the car appeared in the intersection, the State Patrol said.
The truck locked its brakes while swerving to avoid the Mazda, and struck the car on the driver’s side, pushing it into a ditch, troopers reported.
The wheels of the truck rolled up into the cab of the car as the Mazda became pinned against the embankment.
The truck was driven by Michael D. Lindsey, 57, of Port Townsend, who was uninjured in the 10:19 a.m. crash, the State Patrol said.
“The car came out in front [of the truck] and tried to turn to the left,” said Undersheriff Tony Hernandez.
“Both vehicles swerved and took evasive action, but they hit each other and wound up in the ditch.”
