Driver pleads not guilty in car rollover that injured 3

PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Hadlock man has pleaded not guilty to two counts of vehicular assault and three counts of reckless endangerment in connection with a Jan. 9 single-car rollover on Cape George Road that injured three passengers.

Ross Carl Nagy, 21, entered the plea Friday before Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Craddock Verser. A jury trial was scheduled for March 15-16.

Nagy remains in Jefferson County jail with bail set at $25,000.

The maximum penalty for vehicular assault is 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.

Washington State Patrol reported that Nagy was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass coupe westbound on Cape George Road about three miles east of Port Townsend at about 11 p.m. on Jan. 9. The report states the vehicle left the road in the 2100 block of Hastings Avenue.

Also in the car were Cody A. Hewitt, 20, of Discovery Bay, Peter Gabriel Johnson, 19, of Port Townsend, and Aaron E. Nolan, 18, of the Four Corners area.

Johnson was transported by a private party to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with a serious hand injury. He has since been released.

Hewitt was taken by a private party to Jefferson Healthcare hospital, where he was treated for head and shoulder lacerations and released.

Nolan was treated at Jefferson Healthcare for multiple contusions and released.

Nagy told the State Patrol he was driving with his headlights off and accelerated, causing the car to veer off the road, overturn and come to rest on its wheels.
