PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man remained in the Clallam County jail with no bond set after he escaped major injury when he failed to negotiate the Morse Creek curve and collided with a concrete barricade on U.S. Highway 101 near the Deer Park scenic overlook.
The driver was able to self-extricate from the pickup, and fire crews arriving at about 7:45 p.m. Monday stabilized the truck and worked to safely mitigate a fluid spill coming from the truck, according to Clallam County Fire District 2.
The State Patrol said the driver, 25-year old Hunter E. Spurgeon of Port Angeles, was taken into custody for investigation of a number of offenses.
“He was subsequently arrested and is being investigated for DUI,” said Trooper Jessica Schob, State Patrol public information officer.
“I’m not sure if there is an additional reason he left the road.”
Spurgeon also is being investigated for driving with a suspended license and for interference with a health care facility after being treated at Olympic Medical Center.
“We have no information on what occurred at the hospital,” Schob said.
