PORT ANGELES — A driver who swerved to avoid a deer escaped injury when the 2002 Subaru he was driving flipped onto its top west of Port Angeles, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 officials said.
The 36-year-old driver, who was not identified by the fire district, was traveling west on state Highway 112 on Friday afternoon when a deer ran in front of his car, causing him to swerve and lose control just west of Dan Kelly Road, said Assistant Chief Mike DeRousie.
The car left the roadway, rolled onto its top and came to a rest in a grove of bushes.
The driver was able to climb out from the passenger door. He was evaluated by an emergency medical technician, who determined that he was not injured, DeRousie said.
The wreck was reported at 5:17 p.m.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue responded with a medic unit, a command vehicle and six personnel. Elwha police and the State Patrol also responded to the scene.
