PORT ANGELES — Colorful “handprint” tiles to benefit the Dream Playground at Erickson Park will be offered at a Dream Playground Foundation booth at the Clallam County Fair, scheduled Thursday through Sunday.
“Bring the child, adult or creature — dogs are decidedly more welcome than ducks — whose imprint will be on the tile,” said Steve Charno, foundation president, in a written statement.
“The process takes only a few minutes.”
Earlier this year, the foundation — which maintains the playground built in 2002 — unveiled plans for a community pavilion and picnic shelter next to the Dream Playground at Fourth and Race streets in Port Angeles.
The volunteer build, scheduled for May 2009, will require raising about $40,000, said Steve Charno, foundation president, in a written statement.
So the foundation is selling the handprint tiles that were a fundraising staple for the original playground.
The cost is $30 per tile, or two for $50.
The original tiles were mounted on the seating kiosks at the Dream Playground.
The new tiles will be mounted on the pavilion, which has been designed by local architect Hank Gibson to perpetuate the feel of the original playground.
