Champion dogs and boats will prevail under abundant sunshine at two North Olympic Peninsula events this weekend.
The eighth annual Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club dog shows and obedience trials will run continuously Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On picturesque Lake Pleasant on the West End, the Whidbey Island Outboard Hydroplane Racing Association will sponsor hydroplane races during the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday.
The Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club shows will feature American Kennel Club-licensed dogs of all breeds.
They will be held on the Blake family property just southeast of Carrie Blake Park on Blake Avenue.
Admission is free, but there is a $3 parking fee.
Spectators can expect to see nearly 1,000 dogs representing more than 100 breeds, based on 2003 registrations, the kennel club reported.

Near Beaver, outboard hydroplanes in nine different classes will race at speeds of up to 100 mph on a race course along the southeast side of Lake Pleasant.
Racing is scheduled to start about 11:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and as many as 40 entries are expected.
Viewing is best from Lake Pleasant Community Beach County Park, just off U.S. Highway 101 about 10 miles north of Forks.

* The Port Angeles Light Opera Association’s 2004 musical production, “Annie Get Your Gun,” opens a limited run tonight at Port Angeles High School auditorium, 304 E. Park Ave.

* In Port Ludlow, the seventh annual Music on the Green, sponsored by the Port Ludlow Arts Council, will be held Sunday starting at noon on the Bay Club lawn.
The musical performances swing from the large sounds of Bob Mocata’s Stardust Big Band to the ragtime sounds of the Cornucopia Concert Band and the country music vocalizations of Mary Wiles.
