PORT ANGELES — An event to raise money for a dog park will be held May 13 at The Gateway transit center.
People are encouraged to bring their own dogs to the event, which likely will run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., said Richard Bonine, city recreation services manager.
The facility at the corner of Lincoln and Front streets “will be transformed into an off-leash, dog-friendly environment,” he said.
Items such as a mountain bike and ceramic food and water bowls will be auctioned.
Admission will be free.
The event will be hosted by a group of 24 people, with help from the two Port Angeles Rotary clubs and the city, to establish an off-leash dog area at Lincoln Park.
The group needs to raise between $40,000 and $45,000 to build the three-quarter-acre dog park east of the BMX track and cover maintenance costs for three years, as stipulated by the city.
Bonine said the city is waiving the rental fee for The Gateway.
