SEQUIM — Robyn Veenema and her dog Cholla, a 5-year-old parti-colored cocker spaniel, have achieved the American Kennel Club’s top title of MACH, for Master Agility Champion.
To obtain the title, Veenema and Cholla had to exhibit superior performance, speed and consistency in AKC agility competition.
It is believed to be the first MACH title awarded to a North Olympic Peninsula dog and its handler, and is the culmination of two years of competition by “Team Cholla” in the Northwest.
The title was awarded Sunday after Veenema and Cholla competed in the Wenatchee Kennel Club’s dog agility trials.
In addition, Cholla is now ranked as the No. 2 cocker spaniel in the AKC’s agility rankings.
Veenema and Cholla are also qualified to compete in the AKC Agility National Championship in Long Beach, Calif., in December.
