PORT TOWNSEND — Dreams, like life, have a way of not turning out the way you planned.
But for Oriana Green, learning how to pull down a six-figure income has softened the blow.
“I was dead broke a year ago, and starting over,” Green said. “In 2005, I will make six figures for sure.”
Green was one of the women who received entrepreneurial awards totaling $3,250 at last year’s “Do Your Dream” seminar.
Sponsored by Soroptimists of Port Townsend/East Jefferson County, the inspirational seminar has given women both the moral and financial support to pursue the life’s work they’ve always dreamed of — or the work that’s waiting for them.
“The funny thing about dreams is they don’t come true in the way you think they’re going to,” Green said.
$1,000 award
Green, who received a $1,000 award, used it to develop her new business, Rainshadow Designs, but said it was the contacts she made at the seminar that opened doors to success.
They included Barbara Stanny, a nationally known author who moved to Port Townsend and started the “Do Your Dream” seminar three years ago.
In addition to hearing Stanny and other women describe their paths to success, participants are paired up with mentors.
While Stanny wasn’t Green’s designated mentor, they got to know each other after Green worked on advertisements Stanny put in the Olympic Peninsula Women’s Institute magazine, another contact she made at the seminar.
THE THIRD ANNUAL “Do Your Dream” seminar will be held Saturday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the USO building at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend.
Cost is $20. A no-host lunch will be available in the Commons from noon to 1 p.m. Childcare is available on request.
