Community members gather earlier this month to discuss possible options for expanding the Sequim Library. A second meeting is set for Saturday.

Discussion on Sequim Library expansion continues Saturday

SEQUIM — The conversation about the potential expansion of the Sequim Branch Library will continue Saturday.

Representatives with the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) and SHKS Architects will host another community engagement project overview from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The meeting centers around a broad community conversation about expanding the library due to overcrowded spaces and aging infrastructure in the 1983 building.

Library staff said the building is now in Phase 2, a conceptual design phase, of its expansion project that will help determine community priorities for an expanded library, develop a solid cost estimate and produce a schematic design for an expanded library at the current location.

Registration is strongly encouraged due to limited space for an interactive design workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon, which library staff said is a chance for community members to “roll up their sleeves and ponder site-use and design elements up close.”

Participants will work in small teams to collaboratively develop their vision for a site plan or floor plan for the future library.

From 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., SHKS Architects and NOLS staff will discuss the project overview, and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. community members can comment on the project, share thoughts and discuss design preferences.

This is the second of two meetings for the conceptual design phase.

To register, email Sequim@nols.org or call 360-683-1161. Drop-in participation on the day of the event might be possible, depending on space availability.

For more information, visit www.nols.org, or contact library Director Margaret Jakubcin at 360-417-8500, ext. 7714, or via email at director@nols.org.
