PORT ANGELES — A 41-year-old man was rescued after he was injured while riding a dirt bike on trails in an area south of Port Angeles commonly called Six Pack, firefighters said.
While riding the trails, Edward Houk III lost control and went off the trail and about 25 feet down an embankment Monday afternoon, according to Dan Huff, assistant chief of Clallam County Fire District No. 2.
Huff said another rider called 9-1-1 and led first responders to the wreck.
The area is on the north side of Little River Road between Black Diamond Road and Heart o’ the Hills.
Medics and firefighters from Fire District No. 2 and Olympic Ambulance hiked about 2 miles on bike trails with their equipment to reach Houk and treat him, Huff said.
“It took eight guys and a rope to pull him up the bank,” Huff said.
Houk sustained an injury to one of his knees, Huff said, but nothing life-threatening.
Once stabilized, he was moved onto a stokes litter to move him from the hillside to the trail.
He was met by an ATV pulling the litter trailer to transport him to an ambulance at the trailhead.
According to the news release, Houk was transported to Olympic Medical Center.
Bobby Beeman, OMC spokesperson, said Houk was not listed at OMC on Monday or Tuesday.
